An open casting call has been announced seeking area locals to portray featured background actors in the upcoming American epic Western film “Horizon: An American Saga” co-written, produced, directed by and starring Kevin Costner. Announced back in April 2022, “Horizon” is Costner’s first directorial project since western “Open Range” in 2003. The feature film will also feature a stellar cast of Hollywood luminaries such as Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson and Thomas Haden Church. All told, the cast and crew for the series are expected to number about 400, which will include local talent and extras. The four-part epic story will span 15 years in the settlement of America’s Western frontier, and focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.
Production on the second part of the movie saga begins in the St. George, UT area in May. The film will be shot at various undisclosed locations throughout Washington County in 2023.
**The open casting call for extras will be held on March 17th and 18th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Abby Inn. The hotel is located at 1129 S. Bluff St. in St. George, UT.
**All applicants must attend an orientation in the conference room covering project details, such as rates, hours and special abilities. They are asking that you do not bring guests, pets, cameras or recording devices. Cellphones are pemitted off-set only
The St. George area shoot will cover parts two and three of the four-film series, according to a news release from the Greater Zion Convention and Tourism Office.
