Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Lopez has officially signed on a new project for Netflix in the form of an upcoming sci-fi thriller titled Atlas. Brad Payton will direct. According to Deadline, Lopez will play the title character, who is fighting for humanity in a future where a rogue A.I. soldier has determined that the only way to end war is to end humanity. To outthink this A.I., Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another A.I.
Aron Eli Coleite is writing the latest draft of the script, which was originally written by Leo Sardarian. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will produce for Safehouse Pictures along with Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment as well as Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina joining Lopez to produce through Nuyorican Productions. Courtney Baxter will exec produce with Matt Schwartz co-producing.
Lopez will soon be seen opposite Owen Wilson in Universal’s romantic comedy Marry Me, and she recently wrapped the action-comedy Shotgun Wedding, which pairs her with Josh Duhamel. Both Films are slated for release in 2022. She is repped by CAA and The Medina Co.
