The musical-drama series STAR has been cancelled after three seasons at FOX. The network announced the cancellation yesterday just one week after FOX renewed the sister drama Empire for a sixth season. It also comes on the same day that Fox axed a number of other series, including The Passage, Lethal Weapon and The Cool Kids. .

STAR premiered on December 14, 2016 and centered around three talented young singers who navigate the music business on their road to success and stars Jude Demorest, Brittany O’Grady, Ryan Destiny, Queen Latifah, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown, Brandy Norwood and Luke James. In its third season, the series averaged 3.5 million viewers and a 1.06 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers). That’s down from Season 2’s 4.1 mil/1.3 average, while the show hit series lows as recently as May 1.

The Season 3 finale — which aired on Wednesday, May 9th 12019 — ended on a major cliffhanger, with multiple lives hanging in the balance.

Lee Daniels, Pamela Oas Williams and Karin Gist were executive producers; Gist was also the showrunner. The series was a production of 20th Century FOX Television in association with Lee Daniels Entertainment.
