Nearly all scripted television series and film productions have been shutdown in the U.S and Canada amid the Coronavirus pandemic. According to Deadline, the shutdown which will begin on March 16th 2020 is being done out of precaution and in compliance with bans on large gatherings, travel and other restrictions by authorities in the U.S. and abroad.
The long list of series that have been halted or placed on delay are CBS series such as All Rise, NCIS, The Neighborhood, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Late, Late Show with James Corden, Bull, Survivor, and The Talk. ABC’s General Hospital, The Bachelorette, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy among others. NBC has halted Law & Order: SVU, American Housewife, The Blacklist and other shows in it’s lineup. Netflix’s Stranger Things has also shutdown in the middle of filming it’s fourth season. FOX has shutdown Empire and it’s new series NeXt. The CW has also shutdown quite a few productions as well as Disney, TNT and FX.

Apple announced that all its shows produced by outside studios have been suspended for the time being. There are also shows — such as Fox’s “9-1-1” shows, and HBO’s “Insecure” — that have already finished production for the season.
The television and film industry has been hit hard by the Coronavirus health crisis and we are hearing that the fallout has only just begun. It’s perfectly warranted of course as we take this very seriously and everyone’s health must be put first. It must be noted that these shutdowns will have untold financial and cultural impact, and may reshape popular culture and its economic model for years to come.
