Academy Award and Tony-award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix reboot of the 1991 film The Addams Family, titled Wednesday. According to TVLine the actress will follow in the footsteps of Anjelica Huston, who played the matriarch in the iconic 1991 film and Charlize Theron, who voiced the character in the 2019 animated remake. Joining her among the cast is Luis Guzmán who will bring to life the debonair Gomez Addams. The new project will be a reunion for Zeta-Jones and Guzmán, who both starred in Steven Soderbergh’s crime drama Traffic back in 2000.

Wednesday will be an eight-episode series for Netflix and is described as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Zeta-Jones is fresh off an arc in Fox’s Prodigal Son and counts features Chicago, Traffic and Ocean’s Twelve among her credits. She’s repped by UTA.
