American Idol is back now on ABC and they want you to come out and audition for the 2018-19 season! Exactly sixteen years ago, American Idol hit TV screens for the first time, forever changing the landscape of reality competition programming. The producers of American Idol announced last year that the series would be moving from it’s longtime home at FOX and will now be broadcast from its new home on ABC. Winners chosen by viewers in its fifteen seasons were Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Spark, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani and Trent Harmon. The series concluded its original run on FOX after 15 seasons. American Idol will return for a seventeenth season — its second on ABC. On May 21, 2018 the sixteenth season concluded, crowning Maddie Poppe winner and Caleb Lee Hutchinson runner-up.
On May 4, 2018, it was announced that ABC would renew the revival series for another season. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will return as judges, while Ryan Seacrest will return as host.
The nationwide search for the next superstar kicks off on FRIDAY, JULY 20TH 2018, as the Idol Bus jumps into gear across America, offering hopefuls the chance to audition for a shot at superstardom. From New Orleans, Miami, Houston, Orlando to Philly, American Idol will search every corner of the nation in its pursuit for talent. Auditioning has never been easier, with the series also taking to the internet, offering hopefuls the opportunity to submit audition videos online. The producers of AMERICAN IDOL® can’t wait to hear what you’ve got this summer. You can audition online and in-person—or both!
