After four glorious seasons the band will not play on as Amazon has decided to cancel the web-television dramedy series Mozart in the Jungle.  The series, if you are unfamiliar, gave a sexy behind-closed doors look at various key players within the New York Symphony, all of whom may very well be more dramatic than The Real Housewives of  Atlanta and New York put together. The series starred Gael García Bernal, Lola Kirke, Saffron Burrows, Malcolm McDowell, Hannah Dunne and Bernadette Peters.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, this is the first major programming decision from Amazon’s newest chief, Jennifer Salke, with her apparent desire to remove quieter, niche series in favor of guaranteed blockbluster hits.  “We are so proud of the four seasons we made of this show and are grateful to the cast, crew, fans and Amazon for writing this symphony with us. We hope people will keep finding the show for years to come,” the executive producers, such as Jason Schwartzman, said in a statement.

The half-hour comedy-drama produced by Amazon Studios got Amazon seriously into the awards game, winning the 2016 Golden Globe for Best TV Series Musical or Comedy and being nominated again last year. It also won back-to-back Emmys for Sound Mixing in 2016 and 2017.
