Casting Call for Netflix ‘A Different World’ Reboot Series

The cult-classic Cosby Show spin-off comedy series A Different World is getting a reboot. The series which aired for six seasons on NBC from September 24, 1987, to July 9, 1993 was originally centered on Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and the life of students at Hillman College, a fictional historically black college in Virginia; was inspired by student life at historically black colleges and universities.

The new series which has been picked up by Netflix, will follow Whitley and Dwayne’s daughter Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), a free-spirited and well-intentioned freshman at Hillman. As she settles in at school, Deborah will find it difficult to escape the shadow of her parents. She will have to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest. Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell, and Cree Summer are heading back to Hillman to reprise their roles.

A casting call has gone out seeking African-American people to play college students and alumni. Filming will start in early February and will take place in and around the Atlanta, GA area.
