Production is currently underway on the upcoming Disney+ and National Geographic fourth installment of the period drama anthology series Genius: MLK/X. According to VARIETY, this season will center on the formative years, accomplishments, dueling philosophies and key personal relationships of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. While King advanced racial equality through nonviolent protest, Malcolm X argued forcefully for Black empowerment, identity and self-determination. With their formidable wives, Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz, by their sides, King and Malcolm X became synonymous with the civil rights era and the fight for racial and economic justice.
Set to star as it’s leading cast are Kelvin Harrison Jr. who will play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Aaron Pierre will play Malcolm X, Weruche Opia will play Coretta Scott King and Jayme Lawson will play Betty Shabazz. Seasons 1-3 of “Genius,” centered on Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso and Aretha Franklin, respectively, and aired on National Geographic, though “MLK/X” will be a Disney+ exclusive.
Filming is currently taking place in and around the Atlanta, GA areas. The casting director is currently seeking the following to work on the series as paid background actors, standins, photo double and possible featured talent:
- TWIN GIRLS – Seeking 2 Twin toddler girls between the ages of 2 – 4 years old to look younger who can portray African American for a FEATURED role in Disney+ Series Season 4 Genius: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr/ Malcolm X as Malcolm X’s Daughters. - PROTEST TYPES – Seeking Men and Women, Ages 18+ to portray PROTESTORS, ONLOOKERS, MEDIA/PRESS, and CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS for historic Selma and New York protest scenes. They want talent of all races, genders, and ages (18+) with period-appropriate looks. Natural hair, clean-shaven. Women should wear up to dress size 8, and men up to chest measurement 44″. - CELEBRITY LOOK-ALIKES – Seeking Men and Women who are 18 and up and can portray any of these celebrities like Adam Clayton Powell, Mahalia Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr., Josephine Baker, Charlton Heston, Joan Baez, Paul Newman, Bob Dylan, Ossie Davis and Harry Belafonte. - GENERAL EXTRAS – Seeking Men and Women 18 or older and who appear African American to portray participants in the March on Washington. They need men and women with natural period-appropriate hair. Men should be clean shaven or have a neat mustache and jacket size up to 44″ and women with dress size up to 8. COVID Test on Sun Jan 15 or Mon Jan 16, 2023 and Filming on Tuesday Jan 17, 2023. - TRAVELERS – Seeking Men and Women, Ages 18+ who can portray international travelers who appear as though they have traveled from another country wearing their culturally appropriate clothing.
