Production is currently underway on Season 2 of the Amazon drama series “American Rust” starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney. According to Deadline, Amazon’s free ad-supported VOD streaming service (formerly IMDB TV) has ordered a second season of the Rust Belt drama series that was canceled by Showtime in January. Based on Philipp Meyer’s critically acclaimed novel of the same name, the first season of American Rust explored the tattered American Dream in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania through the eyes of police chief Del Harris (Daniels). Harris becomes compromised when the son of the woman he loves (Tierney) is accused of murder, and he is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.

Filming is scheduled to begin after Thanksgiving in the Pittsburgh, PA area and will likely last around four months. On Tuesday November 8th, our friends at Nancy Mosser Casting put out a casting call for “core background” actors for a variety of roles that include police detectives, construction workers, welders, farmers, lawyers, clerks and more. You must be at least 18 or older to work on the series.

The selected actors will work 1-10 days a month. Pay is about $175 for 12 hours of work, with overtime pay kicking in after 12 hours. Applicants must be up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including booster shots. There is a $60 stipend for COVID testing when not working. The announcement states that those cast in the series will need “great availability” during the span of filming.
