SEEKING
- TECH/SERGEANT VERNON C WATERS – late 50s-early 60s, Black male. A well-built light skinned black man who runs the baseball team. He believes that black people need to cast aside certain behaviors in order to gain more respect from white people. The tension this creates between the men leads to his murder.
- CAPTAIN CHARLES TAYLOR – Mid-late 30s, white male. a West Point educated officer who resists Davenport’s rank and assignment to investigate Waters’s murder. He does not believe that a black man can succeed in convicting a white man for the murder of another black man.
- PRIVATE FIRST CLASS MELVIN PETERSON – 30s, Black male. a model soldier who repeatedly goes head-to-head with Waters, challenging his every move. He eventually attacks Waters and shoots him twice, leaving him dead.
- PRIVATE C.J. MEMPHIS – late 20s to early 30s, Black male. Sings and plays guitar. The star of the baseball team. Young, handsome, and likable but troubled.
- PRIVATE TONY SMALLS – Late 30s, Black male. a timid career soldier who is arrested for going AWOL the night of Waters’s murder. He eventually admits to witnessing Waters’ death.
- CORPORAL ELLIS – 30s, Black male. A spit and polish soldier who is assigned to be Davenport’s assistant during the investigation.
- CORPORAL LOUIS HENSON – late 20s to early 30s, Black male. The pitcher of the baseball team, he is often crude and outspoken.
- CORPORAL BERNARD COBB – mid-late 20s, Black male. one of CJ’s closest friends, he reveals to Davenport what happened between CJ and Waters before their deaths.
- PRIVATE JAMES WILKIE – early 40s, Black male. a career soldier from Detroit who helps Waters run the baseball team. He has his stripes removed by Waters for drinking on guard duty. He is arrested by Davenport for putting the murder weapon under CJs bunk.
- LIEUTENANT BYRD – 20s, white male. A by the books soldier who beats Waters up the night of his murder.
- CAPTAIN WILCOX – 30 to 40 years old, white male. A medial officer who prevents Byrd from killing Waters the night of his murder.
- CAPTAIN RICHARD DAVENPORT – ROLE CAST. SEEKING UNDERSTUDY. Black male, 35-50. A lawyer and military officer who investigates the murder of Waters.
