Production has begun on the upcoming Disney Plus high school basketball feature film Chang Can Dunk. According to Deadline, the story follows a 16-year old, Asian-American, constantly marginalized, not-popular high school kid and wannabe basketball player becomes obsessed with the idea of learning to dunk, all in an effort to best the school’s basketball star, Matt — and hopefully win the adoration of the very pretty Kristy. Set to star are Bloom Li who has landed the lead role in the feature. Dominic Pace and Chase Liefeld will also star.
The motion picture is to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures intended for initial release on Disney+. Jingyi Shao will direct and write. Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani are producing through their Hillman Grad Productions.
Filming is taking place in the Stamford/Greenwich, Connecticut areas. The casting director is currently seeking the following to work on the feature as paid background, photo doubles, standins and possible featured talent:
