Netflix Renews Comedy Drama Series ‘Russian Doll’ for Season 2

Netflix has reportedly decided to renew the comedy drama series Russian Doll for Season 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The second season will consists of eight episodes and the renewal was revealed by the show’s leading star Natasha Lyonne and Netflix VP originals Cindy Holland during their joint appearance Tuesday at Recode’s Code Conference in Arizona. When asked about what season two will be about, Lyonne said at the conference, it will be the “same show, just weirder.”

Russian Doll follows a woman named Nadia on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City. She dies repeatedly, always restarting at the same moment at the party, as she tries to figure out what is happening to her. Season 1 of “Russian Doll” dropped in February to near universal acclaim, with the series holding a 96% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland executive produce with Lyonne and Headland also serving as writers and directors. The series is produced by Universal Television, Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, JAX Media, and 3 Arts Entertainment. Jamie Babbit also served as director on the series.
