An open casting call has gone out seeking a strong performer to play the role of Jesus for the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice iconic rock-musical Jesus Christ Superstar 50th Anniversary tour. The new North American tourr launches this October in Austin, Texas and will play in 50 markets. This production first premiered at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2017 in London and received the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.
The production is by the award-winning creative team from Regents Park Open Air Theatre in London, winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The Director is Timothy Sheader, Musical Director is Tom Deering and the Choreographer is Drew McOnie. The producer is Stephen Gabriel, Work Light Productions and Casting is by Wojcik|Seay Casting in NY.
Character Description:
- JESUS – Rock tenor; 20s-30s. Chest voice B2-Bb4, powerful falsetto/scream up to G5. This role demands a well-rounded, rich middle register that also has a super extended upper register with virtuosity coupled with sensitive musicianship. Think Jim Morrison meets Steven Tyler. A true “rock star”, comfortable addressing a group of 12 or an arena of 12,000. This role does not dance but must be comfortable moving. A performer with strong individual identity, ability to communicate beyond the fourth wall in a very large house and be free and creative during the rehearsal process. MUST PLAY GUITAR. WILL NEED TO PLAY AT THE AUDITION. GUITAR WILL NOT BE PROVIDED – MUST BRING YOUR OWN!
Please come prepared, with your guitar, to sing a rock song and
accompany yourself. Have more than one selection prepared in case asked.
In addition, please learn the song ‘Gethsemene’ from the show Jesus

only seeking the role of Jesus who MUST PLAY GUITAR. If you are
