NBC drama series This Is Us breakout star Chrissy Metz has signed on to star in the FOX 2000 film The Impossible: The Miraculous Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Child’s Resurrection, which is based on a book proposal by Joyce Smith. Miracles from Heaven producer Devon Franklin will produce. It is the first project set at Fox for Franklin Entertainment since the producer moved his deal there. Smith’s story made national headlines in 2015, and the book proposal hatched a bidding battle won by Hachette Books, which will publish later this year.
According to Deadline, Chrissy Metz will star as Joyce, whose-14-year old son fell through a frozen lake in Missouri one winter and was proclaimed lifeless. Through prayer and faith, Joyce sat by her son’s bedside until his heart started beating again. Seven Pounds scribe Grant Nieporte penned the screenplay. Marisa Paiva will oversee production for the studio as filming is slated to being in March in Winnipeg.
Metz is best known for her role as Kate Pearson in the NBC drama series This Is Us, which earned her Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations. She is also known for her role in FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show. Metz has earning one Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations to date. Metz, who is fresh off of a SAG win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, is repped by CAA and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
