American Idol is back now on ABC and they want you to come out and audition for the 2017-18 season!  Exactly fifteen years ago, American Idol hit TV screens for the first time, forever changing the landscape of reality competition programming. In celebration of the franchise’s anniversary, which also marks the birth year of this season’s youngest eligible contestant, the producers of American Idol announced today the start of auditions for the new season of the show, which will be broadcast from its new home on ABC. Winners chosen by viewers in its fifteen seasons were Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Spark, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani and Trent Harmon. The series concluded its original run on FOX after 15 seasons. American Idol will return for a sixteenth season — its first on ABC — in 2018. The announcement was made official on Good Morning America on May 9, 2017
